Devolve is a cozy puzzle mini-game  in which you're trying to find the common ancestor of your little animals. To achieve your goal you can edit their genome and find out what parts of their DNA belong to this ancestor!

This game is a submission to the GMTK Game Jame 2026.

In this game, we're counting down the ancestry of species. The theme "Countdown" invoked the idea of a regression. We pushed the idea of regression and found that the best way to display regression was through evolving, or rather the exact opposite : Devolving. To win you have to find the closest common ancestor and go down the ancestry of the animals in this game.

Unfortunately, there is no win screen, so you can just enjoy the game as a sandbox !
